Students have excelled at Collyer’s with an A2 pass rate at 99%, with 56% achieving grades at A and B, the college’s best ever performance!
In a number of subjects the results are particularly outstanding. Chemistry enjoyed a 100% pass rate with 70% at A/B, Dance had a 100% pass rate and 68% A/B and Drama and Theatre Studies also posted a 100% pass rate with 67% at A/B. 70% of Government and Politics students achieved A/B, Photography had a 100% pass rate with 75% at A/B, Philosophy had a 100% pass rate with 85% A/B and this year’s top performing subject Electronics achieved a pass rate of 100%, with a phenomenal 90% at A/B!
Noteworthy individual successes were also achieved in a number of subjects across the college. Rebecca Tye achieved straight A*s in History, Philosophy, Geology, English Literature and Extended Project Qualification (EPQ); Alexandra Smith also gained A* across the board in Maths, Economics, Government and Politics, Further Maths and EPQ. Bryan Tester achieved A*s in Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths, with an A in Physics, Sophie Watson gained A* Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and EPQ, while Amanda Gilbert achieved an A* in Chemistry, with A's in Psychology, Biology and AS Science in Society. The Principal, Dr Jackie Johnston, was absolutely thrilled that the college had exceeded its own very high previous track record: “Students have worked very hard and the staff have grappled with new specifications this year, making these outcomes doubly impressive. We are delighted!”
Despite national press coverage which has focussed on scaring students
about their chances of getting places at university, the strong performance of these students means that the vast majority will have secured their offers. The college is not anticipating any greater impact this year, though of course some will be disappointed.
The college’s high quality post results advice service is now in full swing, with staff guiding students into appropriate university choices.
The College of Richard Collyer is a sixth form college with approximately 1,550 full-time 16-18 students and 500 adult education evening students. As a top performing institution, Collyer’s has Beacon status and enjoys an “Outstanding” overall rating from Ofsted.
