Girls Hockey Team aim for a shot at National Title

After a confidence boosting learning experience at the National Indoor Championships last week, the Girls Hockey team have now set their sights firmly on a shot at the National Outdoor Schools Championships title in March.

Girls Hockey TeamAt the indoor finals in Worcester, Collyer’s saw off Millfield 4-0 (I. Wood; L. Wood; Knight 2) and demolished Cheltenham 9-2 (L.Wood 5; Dean 4). However, defeats to Cooper and eventual winners Repton, shattered their dreams of a National Indoor Championship title.

Hayley Worman, who along with Jane Burroughs, coaches hockey at Collyer’s, was philosophical in defeat: “The experience at the indoor tournament has been an extremely valuable one. The team are battle hardened and determined to push even harder at the national outdoor championships in March”.

James Gordon, Head of Faculty for Business, Sport and Social Sciences added: “We are incredibly proud of this talented hockey team and I know the squad simply can’t wait for a crack at the national outdoor title in Staffordshire.”

Hayley Worman added: “A huge well done must go to all the team: Priya Bhogal, Autumn Bowden,  Jess Dean (Captain), Sophie Knight; Carolyn Watson (GK), Izzy Wood,  Lucy Wood and Manager Ita Lawton. They have been brilliant throughout a tense indoor championship.”
