During the two and a half hour session, students learnt important technical information on the history of electric music, which will help them in their AS exams later on this year.

David gave an exciting inter-active presentation, introducing the students to a number of the David Gale demonstrates the Theremin instrument students (left to right) Fred Henderson, Adam Collier, David Gale and Chelsey Cox (Picture taken by Georgia Hope, A level Collyer’s Student) instruments he uses to create his powerful tunes. These included everything from the computer software ‘Logic’ to the professional industry hardware of ‘Roland’.

Students were also given the chance to practice on an instrument called the ‘Theremin’, which is unique as it is played without being touched!

David said: “The Theremin was an instrument used on the classic Beach Boys track ‘Good Vibrations’. It was great to bring it to life again with a young generation of such talented music students.”

Head of Music at Collyer’s, Dominic Leitner, was thrilled with the success of the masterclass: “Electronic music is a big aspect of the students’ coursework and David is without doubt one of the UK’s top experts in this field. Having David here was simply a brilliant opportunity for us. We have an enthusiastic group of students and they were thrilled to work with him tonight!”
