IFS School of Finance

About the subject
This course aims to provide a basic understanding of how the finance industry works and is structured with respect to the general public. You will learn about the money path (earnings, taxes, spending and savings), about the types of products financial institutions offer and when they may be useful and the terminology that is used.

Learning Styles
All of the course materials are on-line. The IFS School of Finance provides material that contains discussion questions, ideas for activities, review questions, multiple choice e-tests and a glossary. However there is flexibility, depending on the size and make up of the group, and time available so that particular interests may be incorporated.

Units

1      Personal Financial Encounters
        Aims: to increase the learners’ understanding of everyday financial encounters.

2      Money Management Solutions
        Aims: to enable learners to make informed choices about their bank account and spending decisions.

3      Personal Finance Management
        Aims: to develop an understanding of spending choices, affordability and financial protection.

Exams
Unit 1 and 2 are 30 minute, multiple choice exams with 30 questions.
Unit 3 is a 30 minute, multiple choice exam with 20 questions.
