Spanish Embassy Visitors

Spanish Professors laud "University Standard" Department

In the build up to their January exams, students studying Spanish AS and A2 at Collyer’s were delighted to welcome visitors from the Spanish Embassy. Professors from the consulate in London delivered two presentations and conducted a variety of learning activities with the students and teachers.

Professor Francisco Garcia Quiñonero, from the Spanish Consulate, was impressed with the learners he met: “The students at Collyer’s seemed to really connect with the presentations and were wonderful to teach!”

Margarita Mortimer, who is Subject Leader for Spanish at Collyer’s, was thrilled: “The visit has really helped to give the students a vital insight into Spanish Culture. We are hugely grateful that the professors kindly gave up their time to talk to us. Having them here appeared very beneficial to our students and was a fantastic way to revise for their exams.”

The talks focussed on Spanish immigration issues, which form an important part of the A2 exam. The presenters were also on hand to field questions from the students about Spanish culture and fiestas, which are key topics within the AS course.  The professors also took time to review teaching resources with the Spanish department.

Francisco Garcia Quiñonero was suitably impressed: “The Spanish section of the Virtual Learning Environment was brilliant. It is in the same league as University standards!”

Milagros Herguedas, who also teaches Spanish at Collyer’s, said: “We have a strong languages department at Collyer’s and the support of the Spanish Embassy allows us to keep raising the bar. They had intended to offer Collyer’s their useful resources, but asked if they could use some of our information instead!
