On February 14th, 48 students and staff from Law and Politics departed on a 5 day trip to Washington DC. Whilst enjoying an unusually mild week in the US capital, the group embarked on a packed schedule, which included visits to The Pentagon, Arlington Cemetery and The Capitol where the group were privileged enough to witness a historic vote in the House of Representatives on the US budget. Other highlights of the trip were the walking tour of Washington’s monuments and memorials, which included a lift ride to the top of the Washington monument and a visit to Ford’s Theatre (where the assassination of President Lincoln took place). The group also visited the Newseum which houses exhibitions on how the media have reported major political and legal world events. Exhibits on 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and the work of the FBI were the main areas of interest for the group, along with the fall of the Berlin Wall.
