BTEC Extended Certificate 3 in Sport (Single)

About the subject

The Extended Certificate in Sport is a theory based course, with practical, work-related topics that will provide the underpinning knowledge and understanding for success in future employment within the Sports industry. The qualification offers learners an opportunity to study a range of units that provide the baseline for future employment or training, especially in areas such as sports development, Anatomy and Physiology and training and fitness.

The qualification will also attract UCAS points and will provide an alternative route into higher education at university


Learning styles

You will learn by completing projects and assignment that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.  Teaching methods will include:  formal teaching, discussions, role play, practical and group work.


Subject Combinations and Progression

The course can be taken alongside any other A level subject. However, the qualification has been specifically designed for those students who are focused on Sport and Leisure as a career or university pathway. Students can take other single Btec Courses alongside this, or 2 other A level courses.

Subject Modules and Assessment

You will study 4 units over two year. Unit are assessed using a range of methods including presentations, role plays, practical performance, written reports, posters and verbal questioning. There are also two Units which are assessed as formal exams, Anatomy and Physiology and Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and well being, which is a synoptic assessment.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 in Maths and English Language GCSE. A minimum average GCSE score will also apply.
