About the course
This intensive one-year part-time course is specifically designed to prepare students without traditional entry qualifications for university. This includes those who are looking to change careers and those who have been out of education for some time.
The course is made up of 60 units and includes Biology, Professional Studies, Social Science and Study Skills modules. As part of the course you will complete an independent academic study: a detailed piece investigative piece of work on a relevant health-related subject of interest to you.
You will attend College two evenings a week and approximately one Saturday a month. During the first term of the course we will support you in completing your UCAS application.
You should be aged 19+ and looking for an alternative route into University.
You should have Maths and English at a GCSE grade C/4 or above, or the Level 2 equivalent. If you do not hold these qualifications, please look at our Pre-Access options.
If you hold Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications, please check that the universities you wish to apply to will accept these prior to joining the course.
Assessment is via coursework, presentations, practical and timed assessments and completion of an Independent Academic Study
This course allows you to progress onto a healthcare-related degree, including midwifery, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work and paramedic science.

Students are required to attend the following sessions prior to the course start:
Access Introductory session – Date tbc (July 2020)
College Induction evening – Date tbc (September 2020)
Students aged 19-23 years who are studying for their first Level 3 qualification may qualify for a government subsidy meaning that the course is fully funded.
Advanced Learning Loans are available for students aged 19+. Student Finance England will ‘write off’ any outstanding balance for an Access to HE course once you complete your degree.
There is a £150 deposit to secure their place on the course.
