About the course

This qualification prepares learners for junior and entry level accounting roles. It provides a good foundation in financial administration.

Units studied are: 

  • Bookkeeping Transactions
  • Bookkeeping Controls
  • Elements of Costing
  • Using Accounting Software
  • Work Effectively in Finance

AAT recommend approximately 3 hours of homework per week in addition to class attendance and exam revision.

Entry requirements

Level 1 Award in Accounting and/or working in an accounting environment are helpful but not essential.
A good standard of written and spoken English and Maths plus basic IT skills are required.
Students must become AAT Student Members before the course starts (fees apply).


Assessment is via computer-based assessments for each of the modules plus a Synoptic Assessment which applies skills and knowledge gained across the qualification in an integrated way.


You will need a non-programmable calculator and note-taking equipment. Textbooks and question banks are provided for the modules.


We aim to deliver this course in a face to face classroom setting.  Our arrangements for course delivery will be regularly reviewed in line with the relevant government guidance.  If situations change, your course may require an element of blended learning.   This means some sessions may be virtual classrooms using technology such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom. So, you will therefore need access to a PC, laptop, or other suitable device.  These sessions may be full classes, or provide work set online to undertake during the session.


You can progress on to the AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting

Students must attend a College induction prior to course start


This course is co-funded by the Government meaning that all students benefit from reduced fees.

Full funding may be available for learners who are unemployed, are employed and earn less than £17374.50. per annum or who are aged19-23 and don’t hold a first full Level 2 qualification. See our fees and funding guidance or contact us to find out more
