About the course

This Level 4 qualification covers higher accounting tasks such as financial statements, budgets and evaluating performance. Compulsory modules covered are:

Management Accounting: Budgeting
Management Accounting: Decision and Control
Financial Statements of Limited Companies
Accounting Systems and Controls
2 optional units

AAT recommend 5 hours of homework per week in addition to class attendance and exam revision.

Entry requirements

Learners should have passed the AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting.
A good standard of written and spoken English and Maths plus basic IT skills are required.
Students must become AAT Student Members before the course starts (fees apply)


Assessment is via computer-based assessments, including a Synoptic Assessment.


You will need a non-programmable calculator and note-taking equipment.  Textbooks and question banks are provided for the modules.


We aim to deliver this course in a face to face classroom setting.  Our arrangements for course delivery will be regularly reviewed in line with the relevant government guidance.  If situations change, your course may require an element of blended learning.   This means some sessions may be virtual classrooms using technology such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom. So, you will therefore need access to a PC, laptop, or other suitable device.  These sessions may be full classes, or provide work set online to undertake during the session.


Completion of this qualification and fulfilment of AAT’s work experience requirements allows learners to apply for full AAT membership and achieve professional MAAT status.

Students must attend a College induction prior to the course start date.


Advanced Learner Loans are available for students aged 19+. These are repayable when you finish your course and earn more than £25,000 per annum.

There is a £150 deposit payable at the point of booking. This is non-refundable.
*Includes course books and first exam sitting only. Resits are charged at £50 (£80 for the synoptic assessment).
