About the course
This is the entry point qualification for anyone new to a school support role, including those in voluntary positions. The course provides an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school environments. Topics covered include:
Supporting children’s learning
Health and Safety
Schools as organisations
Play and leisure
Learners should be volunteering in a school for a minimum of 4 hours a week. The application form for this course will need to be signed off by your school’s Headteacher.
Students who do not hold English and Maths GCSEs at C/4 Grade or Functional Skills Level 2 will be invited to sit a diagnostic assessment to ensure that they are working at the required level.
Assessment is via written tasks, professional discussions with the tutor and workplace assessment. You should expect to complete a minimum of 3 hours of homework per week in addition to class attendance.
You will be provided with the course textbook. Please bring paper, pen, file dividers and punched pockets.
Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.
Students are required to attend a College induction prior to the course start date.

This course is co-funded by the Government meaning that all students benefit from reduced fees.
Full funding may be available for learners who are unemployed, are employed and earn less than £16,009.50 per annum or who are aged 19-23 and don’t hold a first full Level 2 qualification. Contact us to find out more.
