About the course
This course is an entry-level accounting qualification, ideal for anyone who is seeking an introduction to basic accounting principles and skills.
Units studied are:
- Introduction to Book-Keeping
- Principles of Book-Keeping Controls
- Principles of Costing
- The Business Environment
This qualification will prepare you for junior and entry level accounting roles. It delivers a solid foundation in finance administration – covering areas such as double entry bookkeeping to basic costing principles and using accounting software. On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded an AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting. This internationally recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification enables those working in accounting or those who looking to pursue accountancy as a career to gain knowledge, practical experience and the all-important certification often sought by employers.
On successful completion of this course you could be eligible for a fully funded Level 3 course. Please see information on progression below.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Previous knowledge of accounting or a Level 1 Bookkeeping qualification would be advantageous but not essential.
Students who do not hold GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or Functional Skills Level 2 qualifications will be invited to sit an assessment to ensure that they have suitable skills for this qualification.
Basic IT skills are also required.
Students must become AAT Student Members before the course starts (fees apply).
This course is assessed through computer-based exams and a synoptic assessment, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification. Assessments take place at the college on Tuesday evenings.
This flexible course is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom. The course starts on Thursday 14th September. Classroom attendance is fortnightly on every other Thursday.
Learners will also study video lessons on demand from home, so it is recommended that you have access to a PC, laptop or other suitable device.
Learners benefit from access to the college library during our evening opening times, including computers, study stations, print-based and electronic learning materials, printers and scanners.
You can progress on to the AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting
Students must attend a college induction on the first evening of the course.
This Level 2 course is co-funded by the Government, meaning that all qualifying students benefit from reduced fees. Our advertised fees take this funding into account.
A £50 non-refundable deposit is payable at the point of booking and the remainder of the course fees are due one week before the course start. Students can apply to pay the balance in two instalments.
This course may be free to learners if they are:
- Earning less than £20,319 p.a.
- 19-23 without a first full Level 2 qualification
Prior to enrolling on any qualification course, please consider carefully if you have the time to commit to this course.
If you start a course and do not complete it, or if your attendance rate is low, this might affect your eligibility to join funded courses in the future.
Our qualification courses are government funded and it is our responsibility to ensure that the funding is used effectively to help learners progress and develop. We will work with you to ensure that you achieve your personal goals and those of the course.
