Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills

About the course

This qualification is the next step for students who have completed the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills. The course develops a repertoire of personal interpersonal skills, promotes personal growth, and provides industry knowledge.

Modules include:

• Understanding the context for the use of counselling skills
• Understanding counselling theory
• Using counselling skills
• Personal development for users of counselling skills

Entry requirements

Learners should have completed a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills. A written task and interview.

Assessment

Assessment is via written work, a reflective journal, and practical skills assessments. Work is submitted and assessed via an electronic portfolio, which demonstrates how you have met the assessment criteria for the course.

You should expect to complete at least 3 hours of homework per week in addition to class attendance.

Delivery

Learners will attend weekly lessons in college. This course may incorporate an element of live remote lessons where appropriate. It is recommended that you have access to a PC, laptop or other suitable device.

We provide a textbook for this course, and it is included in the course fee.

Learners also benefit from access to the college library during our evening opening times, including computers, study stations, print-based and electronic learning materials, printers and scanners.

Progression

To a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or a Foundation Degree in Counselling.

Induction

Students must attend a college induction on the first evening of the course.

Fees

For this course, students may self-fund the course fees, apply for an Advanced Learner Loan or be eligible for full funding under the Government’s Free Level 3 Courses for Jobs offer.

A £50 non-refundable deposit is payable at the point of booking and the remainder of the course fees are due one week before the course start. Students can apply to pay the balance in two instalments. Advanced Learner Loans are available for this course. These loans are repayable when you finish your course and earn more than £27,295 per annum. Please note the maximum advanced learner loan for this course is £811 so the balance of the course fee is payable one week before the start of the course.

This course may be free to learners if they:

· Are unemployed

· Earn less than £18,535 gross annual salary
