About the course
This is an introductory teaching qualification for learners who are new to teaching and training. It is aimed at those wishing to teach in the post-16 students, for example, in Adult Education, Further Education, industry, the voluntary sector or public service.
This is knowledge-based qualification that covers preparing, planning, delivering basic teaching and learning sessions. Units covered include:
- Roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
- Understanding and using inclusive approaches
- Understanding assessment
Entry requirements
You should have GCSE/Level 2 English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
You should hold a Level 3 qualification or higher in your area of expertise.
Assessment
Assessment is via written work and practical observations. Work is submitted and assessed via an electronic portfolio, which demonstrates how you have met the assessment criteria for the course.
You should expect to complete at least 3 hours of homework per week in addition to class attendance.
Delivery
Learners will attend weekly lessons in college. This course may incorporate an element of live remote lessons where appropriate. It is recommended that you have access to a PC, laptop or other suitable device.
Learners also benefit from access to the college library during our evening opening times, including computers, study stations, print-based and electronic learning materials, printers and scanners.
Progression
Students with planned teaching hours in place can progress on to the Diploma in Education and Training.

Induction
Students must attend a college induction on the first evening of the course
Fees
There is no funding available for this course.
A £50 non-refundable deposit is payable at the point of booking with the balance due one week before the course start.
