English GCSE (AQA) Students who have not yet achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language will need to enrol on this course. You will join a friendly and supportive team who have an excellent track record of delivering outstanding results. All students engage in an accelerated programme of Reading and Writing skills development in preparation for resitting the GCSE public examinations in November: Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing, and Paper 2: Writers’ Viewpoints and Perspectives. After Christmas, when the exam results are released, the remaining students co-create a bespoke, personalised learning programme that will prepare them for achieving their potential in the summer public examinations. Specific entry requirements Grade 3 or below in English Language Mathematics GCSE (AQA) Grade 4, or above, at GCSE is an important qualification for many jobs, apprenticeships and higher education courses. This retake course will follow the Foundation syllabus, which covers grades 1 to 5, and its aim is to give students the opportunity to improve their Maths grade. Students who find maths particularly challenging may be given the option to study a course focusing on the real-life areas of mathematics which will result in an equivalent qualification. Specific entry requirements Grade 3 or below in Maths GCSE Retakes Where a student has not achieved a pass at grade 4 or above for one of GCSE English Language or GCSE Maths but has achieved all entry requirements for their chosen Level 3 programme, they will resit the appropriate GCSE alongside their Level 3 qualifications. Level 3 students will be allowed to resit only one of GCSE English Language or GCSE Maths. Please note, GCSE retakes in English Language and Maths are only available for full time Level 3 students. Collyer’s does not offer a pure Level 2 (GSCE equivalent) foundation retake year. www.collyers.ac.uk 38
