About the course

The Advanced Creative Photography course is designed to help students take their knowledge and photographs to the next level. The course allows students to gain hands on and technical experience using advanced camera functions and photoshop / editing software. Prior experience using the software is not necessary, however students should have a good knowledge of their camera’s priority modes, and a basic understanding of ISO and white balance to benefit from this course.
You can expect to learn:

  • What focusing modes are and further advanced focusing techniques
  • What metering modes are and how to meter light to enable you to use manual mode
  • How to use popular camera filters, including ND, polarizing, creative portrait and close up filters
  • Macro photography, including the difference between close up, extension and macro
  • HDR photography and advanced editing techniques

We will explore a range of photographic genres and techniques including panning, silhouettes, landscape/architecture, portraiture and macro.

Delivery

Learners will attend weekly lessons in college.

You will need a DSLR or Mirrorless camera capable of shooting in Aperture Priority and Shutter Speed Priority for this course. Please do get in contact if you are unsure if your camera meets this requirement. A tripod would be beneficial, so please bring one if you have one.

Learners also benefit from access to the college library during our evening opening times, including computers, study stations, print-based and electronic learning materials, printers and scanners.

Course suitability

Students wishing to take the Advanced Creative Digital Photography course should have a good understanding of the camera’s priority modes and knowledge of how ISO and white balance affect photographs.

Fees

A deposit of £50 is due at the point of booking to secure a place on the course. Course fees are the same for all students – there are no concessions available. The balance of the course fee is due one week before the start of the course.
