Design Technology – 3D Product Design

About the subject
The first term in year one will be about training you on our 3D software. We use a mix of Fusion, Blender and Photoshop to product high quality 3D renders for architectural and product visualisation. 60% of the course is coursework, where students can chose to focus on their chosen area. 40% is a 15 hour design based exam where you respond to a brief.
Learning styles
Each lesson will begin with a class demo showing new skills and techniques to be used that week. All lesson material is also pre precorded so that students can follow along at their own pace outside of lesson time. All skills are taught through skills projects where you will be produce high quality visuals of your designs
Product design is suited to students who are taking either Science or Arts combinations of subjects. The broad nature of the specification enables a diverse range of career aims including product design and innovation, architecture, interior design, exhibition and graphic design. Coursework projects can be tailored to meet a particular interest that a student might have.
Modules and Assessments
60% NEA personal investigation: Exploring architectural or product visualisation through digital 3D modelling
40% 15 Hour Design Based Exam: your personal response to a given design brief. Themes are released on February the 1st and you have 2 months to Prep before sitting the 15 hours over two days
Minimum Subject Entry requirements
Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and 4 in DT or other Art & Design GCSE course. You will also be required to show a portfolio of work that can demonstrate a good standard of drawing and creativity. If the student has not studied DT at GCSE then a sketch book demonstrating drawing ability and creativity will be accepted.
