Access to Higher Education

Want to go to University or on to Higher Education?

Last year saw the successful launch of the Access to Higher Education programme specifically designed for those who want to gain a qualification that allows them to develop the skills and knowledge to apply for enter to university. The Access programme also provides stand alone qualifications that are the equivalent to A levels.

The Access course is for adults who may lack academic qualifications but are keen to move on to higher education or improve their job prospects. It gives you the skills, knowledge and self-confidence needed to move on and up. We offer three pathways:-
Education
Health and Social Services
Nursing and Midwifery

The successful achievement of 450 hours of learning, translated into credits, will enable you to apply for a university place. Four subject modules will be needed to achieve this from the list below.
Assessment is by coursework, and possibly some timed pieces. All pathways will have an academic development module to help you develop key study skills.

Collyer’s is offering Access on a part-time evening basis and some workshops may take place on a Wednesday afternoon or early evening. We expect most students will achieve their diploma on a part-time basis over two years.

Courses are over 32 weeks per year, two nights per week. Access courses will start in early September.

Students undertaking the full diploma over one or two years may be eligible for FREE course tuition fees.

You should choose two of these modules for each of the two years of the Diploma, plus Study Skills.

Human & Social Biology Level 3 (Advanced)
English Studies Level 3 (Advanced)
Mathematics for Health & Social Science Level 3 (Advanced)
Psychology Level 3 (Advanced)
Study Skills (Access)

Your Access place is subject to an informal interview with the Access Manager and he will review your intended programme of study.
