About the subject
The BTEC National Level 3 in Creative Digital Media Production: Digital Film and Video Production is an exciting, hands-on course for students who want to make media, not just study it. With a strong emphasis on practical application, students develop the creative and technical skills needed to research, plan, shoot, edit and refine moving image products in response to realistic production briefs. Across five practical units, learners build confidence using industry-style workflows, working both independently and as part of a production team. The course places real-world skills at the centre of learning, including client communication, problem-solving, creative decision-making, organisation and teamwork. While it provides a strong foundation for higher education, its main focus is on preparing students to apply their ideas in practical, purposeful and professional ways. The course is equivalent to one A Level qualification.
Skills Developed
Students will learn the creative and technical skills to put their ideas into practice. They will also learn the essential business and interpersonal skills to prepare them for further study, training or apprenticeships in this popular and competitive field. All coursework units prepare students for the end external assessment taking the form of a practical filming scenario and editing task in response to a client brief.
Subject Combinations and Progression
Students will gain an understanding of how different businesses and organisations in the media sector work. Students will understand the variety of opportunities available to them and the roles and responsibilities of media businesses and organisations in the sector. Therefore this course would be suitable for students considering careers in the media or higher education in media practice.
Learners taking this course would be expected to be on a full programme of study comprising at least two other subject areas. Other complimentary subjects would be A-A-Level Photography, A-Level Film Studies, A-Level Media Studies, A-Level Drama, Dance and Art and Design.

Entry requirements
GCSE English Grade 4 and Mathematics Grade 4. Students should also have basic literacy with ICT and have evidence of creativity.
