News Filmmakers Cut To The Chase 19.01.2026

Collyer’s Media Hub recently welcomed back creative director and visual effects supervisor Simon Carr, who visited to explain potential pathways they could take into the media industry.

Simon has over 30 years of experience in the film industry, having specialised in editing and visual effects. He has worked on several notable productions such as ‘Generation Z’ and ‘The Mandalorian’ and kindly took time out to talk to first and second-year students about his experience in production, breaking down the processes behind implementing visual effects into films.

Student Harry Summerhayes-Cooper enjoyed learning more about Simon and his journey in film: “Simon’s talk really engaged me and helped further develop my general knowledge of the industry”.

At the end of the session Simon answered individual questions from members of the group. His knowledge has been extremely valuable to the students, particularly as many beginning to plan and produce their own films for their coursework in next few months.

Student Asa Finch found the talk fascinating: “Simon Carr encapsulated the interesting history of visual effects – it was really inspiring to hear about the detail that goes into their production”

Rebecca Moon, Collyer’s Head of BTEC Media, said: “Colossal thanks to Simon for inspiring our young filmmakers to make the cut!”
