News Ex Student Returns To Talk Wildlife Surveys 09.04.2026

To support Green Week at Collyer’s, former Environmental Science student Aidan Bird returned to talk to both first year Environmental Science groups about his environmental monitoring work, and to inspire them about careers in Environmental Science following their A-levels.

Dr Ian Carr, Collyer’s Sustainability Co-ordinator, and Deputy Director of the Science Faculty, explained: “Aidan was amazing. He gave an expert talk about the surveys he gets involved in, monitoring wildlife in preparation for civil engineering projects. He gave incredible insight into the life and habits of local bird and mammal life, demonstrating a huge range of knowledge, but it was clear that his passion was bats!”

Aiden also took time out to talk to the students about career opportunities in this field, where they would have the opportunity to work very closely with nature while helping to protect vulnerable species from human activity.
