News Photography Graduate Visit “First Class” 05.11.2026

A First-Class Photography graduate recently returned to Collyer’s to inspire the next generation of photographers. Former Collyer’s A Level Photography student Erin van der Borgh visited students at the college after completing a BA (Hons) Photography degree at UCA Farnham, where she achieved a First-Class Honours Degree. During her visit, she spoke to a small group of Photography Enrichment students about her portfolio, creative practice and university experience.

Erin shared her final-year project, ‘I’ll Remember For You’, centred on her grandmother’s experience of dementia and explored memory, absence and familial relationships. She also shared the exciting news that her final-year project had been shortlisted by Fujifilm and was displayed at the Fujifilm House of Photography in Leicester Square this summer.

Erin said: “Thanks so much for having me back at Collyer’s. It was a joy to see everyone again and to view some amazing work by the current students. It is always fascinating to see how the same brief becomes so personal to each student.”

Reflecting on her return, Erin added: “The visit reminded me of the two years spent in the welcoming environment of the Photography department, as well as the students’ creative spark, focus and energy.”

Erin’s visit gave current learners a valuable insight into studying Photography at degree level and the creative opportunities available beyond college.

Year two Photography student Cameron who shared his project work with Erin said: “She gave great feedback and her work was so personal and inspiring.”  Student Sophie, added: “It was really nice to hear about Erin’s experience at university and especially regarding her photography work. It was very interesting to get a firsthand perspective on university life, get some advice and opinions on our work, and to be able to discuss our projects with Erin.

“Thank you very much to Laura Andrews  for the opportunity. It was really nice to be able to ask questions about university to a student”. Photography student Layla added: “I found it really interesting hearing about photography at university and it helped me understand how to develop my style, and improve my skills in my own work.”

Head of Photography Laura Andrews said: “It was wonderful to welcome Erin back to Collyer’s and to hear about her success since leaving us. We are incredibly proud of her First-Class Honours Degree, and her insight into university life and creative practice was both inspiring and valuable for our current students. It has been lovely to see how themes and techniques developed at Collyer’s have continued to inspire Erin’s work during her degree.”
