About the subject
The BTEC Diploma in Sport is a 2 year course. We use a combination of assessment methods to develop a student’s confidence in their own ability to apply knowledge in order to succeed in the workplace, or progress onto higher education. Within the course there are specialist Units, providing the learner with more in depth understanding of specific areas within the sport industry. As well as enabling learners to pursue a direct path into employment, it is an excellent choice for those who wish to go onto University and Study Sport as a specialist subject, or go onto an apprenticeship.
Learning styles
Sports students learn best by doing, therefore the course aims to develop the skills and knowledge that real life workplace or academic life brings. Students will need to work practically as well and compiling written work. The course will enable students to think about new theories and ideas, observe how these are applied, participate in practical’s to understand further and experience new situations.
Subject Combinations and Progression
The course can be taken alongside any other A level subject. However, the qualification has been specifically designed for those students who are focused on Sport and Leisure as a career or university pathway.
Recommended combinations include A levels in Psychology, Business, Sociology, Biology or Travel and Tourism.
You will not be able to take this qualification alongside A level PE.
Subject Modules and Assessment
You will study 9 units in total over this two year course (6 core and 3 Specialist units). Unit are assessed using a range of methods including presentations, role plays, practical performance, written reports, posters and verbal questioning. Students will also assessed by exernall exam in two units, which are set and marked by the exam board.

5 GCSEs grade C and above, including Grade 4 in English Language, and Science.
