About the subject

The Travel and Tourism sector is undergoing major changes to adapt to the pandemic. With more of the world starting to open up there will be exciting opportunities in this fast-paced adaptable industry and you can be part of it. From working on the ground at an airport managing the customers experience or in the air as cabin crew, marketing or business management , sales, events, hospitality and finance to name but a few.

The qualifications has been designed to provide an all-round introduction to the Travel and Tourism sector but also for you to gain transferrable skills into many different industries and university courses.

The course uses real life events to expand on the theories learnt in the classroom.
It works closely with recognised travel companies such Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Easyjet, TUI and  various organisations at Gatwick Airport such as Menzies Aviation and DHL. We also work closely with local hotels such as The Hilton Gatwick.

 

Learning styles

Teachers will use a wide variety of different strategies to help you learn including educational visits both in the UK and abroad, guest speakers, video input, role plays and formal teaching. Students are required to research current issues affecting the industry using a range of sources; books, video internet and interviews to produce analytical assignments.  Students will be expected to present their work in a variety of methods including exams  formal presentations, role plays and written assignments.

Subject Combinations and Progression

The qualification is ideal for students who are interested in the travel industry or the world of business. Students can pursue Travel and Tourism with 2 other A Level or BTEC course’s.
This qualification allows progression to university to study a variety of business related degrees such as International Travel Management, Event Management or Business Management.
For those wishing to progress directly into employment we work with the the students to ensure they are work ready and have gained the skills that employers are looking for. We also offer a cabin crew course in year 2 where students learn vital life skills such as communication, people management, leadership and assertiveness.
