Collyer’s welcomed Karen Adams, Martin Linfield, and Courtney Palmer Jones from Sunninghill Construction and Richard Allin from BAQUS Construction and Property Consultancy to take part in a careers talk covering the range of pathways within the construction industry, including: structural engineers, architects, quantity surveyor, site manager, operations manager, information manager, administration team. Sunninghill and BAQUS have been working with the college constructing the new café and Shelley Building.

Rebecca Adams, Collyer’s Director of Progression, said: “The session explained the different routes into the construction industry, including traineeships, apprenticeships, degree apprenticeships and HND/HNC degrees.”

Other topics discussed included the current construction work at Collyer’s, social values of the companies, and the environment impact of construction on local landscapes.

Rebecca added: “Both Sunninghill and BAQUS have very kindly offered the students who attended a site visit before the grand opening and potential work experience opportunities.”

Collyer’s Vice Principal (Pastoral) Andrea John was delighted: “What a wonderful session for our students. Huge thanks to Karen, Martin, Courtney and Richard for taking time out to talk to the next generation. We are also extremely grateful to Rebecca Adams, Julie Crysell and Catherine Cooper for making this superb progression event possible.”
