News Collyer’s A Team 14.08.2020

The College of Richard Collyer has again achieved strong results across A-level and vocational provision. These results continue to place Collyer’s as one of the leading sixth form colleges in the country.

New Collyer’s Principal Dan Lodge was extremely proud: “Congratulations to all of our students, who have worked incredibly hard over the past two years with us.

“We are immensely proud of them and the achievements published today. It is important to recognise and celebrate the hard work and commitment of our students, while accepting that these results are being awarded under extraordinary circumstances.”

Deputy Principal Steve Martell was also pleased with the college’s vocational success: “I am delighted to see our vocational Level 3 students rewarded with some excellent results. Expert and dedicated staff and bright, hard-working students make all the difference!”

Collyer’s Chair of Governors David Skipp said: “Well done everyone, in challenging times Collyer’s students and staff have acquitted themselves very professionally and achieved some excellent results. I wish all of our departing Collyerians every success in the future.”

Just some of the noteworthy individual successes included: Ex-Millais student Sej Patel, who achieved A*s in Computer Science, Physics and Further Maths and Maths (double) and is now set to read Mathematics at The University of Warwick. Meg Savage, who prior to Collyer’s attended Farlington School, achieved straight A*s in Maths (double), Further Maths, Chemistry and Physics. Meg is now set to read Physics at Oxford. Sam McQuaker, who joined Collyer’s from Warden Park, now heads to Cambridge to study Theology, Religion, and Philosophy of Religion. Morrell Sotomi, who previously attended Ifield Community College, is now set to study Medical bioscience at Imperial College London.

Josh Martin, who joined Collyer’s from Forest, will study medicine at Imperial, while Harry Watson, who previously attended Tanbridge House, will read medicine at Brighton and Sussex. Aimee Hallsworth, formerly of Millais, will now study English at Cambridge.

Sej Patel was delighted: “I’d like to say a massive thank you to all of my incredible teachers who have supported and encouraged me throughout my time at Collyer’s. I’ve had an amazing time over the past 2 years and lots of great opportunities which have brought me to where I am today.”

Meg Savage said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to the maths and science departments at Collyer’s. The support I was given really helped me to secure my grades and university place.”

Sam McQuaker was thrilled: “These results feel crazy; 2 years ago, I would have never thought I’d be where I am now. I thank God for blessing me with this amazing opportunity, and my teachers who were unbelievably supportive and a massive reason why I got these grades.”

Morrell Sotomi is planning a career in medical research: “I am very happy with the results I have achieved as a result of studying at Collyers. This is in part due to the amazing support I have received from my family and the teachers at Collyers.”

Harry Watson said: “I am ecstatic to have achieved my A level grades enabling me to study Medicine at BSMS. I was privileged to get a top-class education in Horsham at St. Mary’s, Tanbridge House and Collyer’s and be taught by motivational teachers and truly dedicated staff who helped me to reach my full potential.”

Aimee Hallsworth said: “This year has definitely been a challenge, but I’ve had a brilliant support network of friends and family around me. I’m so pleased with my results, despite not being able to put myself to the test in exam conditions!”

Josh Martin said: “I am very grateful for all the effort my teachers have put in to help me, especially all the late-night marking. Having encouraging parents and great college library facilities is an added bonus.”

Steve Martell said: “All within the Collyer’s community are sad that we haven’t been able to see our class of 2020 on results day, but we are still celebrating our students’ achievements and working hard to ensure that they are in a strong position to progress on their chosen pathways.”

Dan Lodge added: “Collyer’s staff have worked so hard to maintain exceptionally high standards and I commend these amazing professionals.”

“I wish all our leaving students every success in the next phase of their education or career journey. All at Collyer’s could not be prouder of the class of 2020.”

The college’s post results advice service is now in full swing, with senior academic staff guiding students through appeals and into appropriate university and higher education choices.
