News Collyer’s Student Snaps Up Photography Prize 21.09.2020

Collyer’s students have performed well in the Falmouth University world-wide photography competition, which encouraged young artists to keep their creative juices flowing. For the “Creative, Connected and Courageous” (CCC) challenges the university asked their students along with applicants and A Level students from across the world to respond to several creative briefs, which focussed on pushing back boundaries and fostering collaboration during these extraordinary times.

Our photography students jumped at the chance to take part in this prestigious competition and entered some fantastic images. Student Lauren Booth won the ‘Expression of Our Times’ Challenge’ for her image Modeless Fashion, with work by  Maddie Marshall, Jess Brokenshire and Finley Lee-Fisher being highly commended by the judges.

Anna Hawes, Falmouth University Head of School and College Partnerships (London & the South East) said: “I was so pleased to see such exciting work from Collyer’s photography students and the judges of each competition were overwhelmed by the responses we had.”

Lauren Booth said: “I was so surprised when I won, I couldn’t believe it! It was so lovely to have my work recognised by such a great university. It has really given me confidence in my work and led me to develop my fashion photography skills.”

“The photograph is about how fashion is a very open concept as everyone has their own style. The dress in the air symbolises how the view towards fashion is up for discussion.”

Collyer’s Head of Photography Laura Andrews said: “We are so proud of Lauren, it is an amazing achievement and we continue to be inspired by our students’ imagination and creativity during what has been a very strange year.”

Lauren added: “I really enjoy Photography at Collyer’s because the teachers are lovely, and they give you the freedom to photograph what you are passionate about. They understand that everyone has their own subject that they excel at and they support and encourage the students with whatever they choose to do so they are able to reach their full potential.”

Deputy Principal Steve Martell said: “All within the Collyer’s community are extremely proud of our outstanding photography department and the success of Lauren, Maddie, Jess and Finley in this world-wide competition.”
