News Luce Set On Filmmaking Career 16.05.2026
Luce Warner, a second year Film and Creative Media student at Collyer’s, has been selected to take part in the prestigious Disney funded NFTS Academy Programme.
Fully funded by The Walt Disney Company, the NFTS Academy offers an intensive residential programme delivered by the National Film and Television School – one of the most respected film schools in the world.
Luce was one of just 54 students from across the UK to take part: “Through Collyer’s I was told about NFTS Academy and was encouraged to apply. I took responsibility as a Camera Operator and Director of Photography in a group of nine filmmakers, working across different specialisms to create a short film in just twelve days.”
During the residential, Luce undertook specialist craft training in cinematography, working closely with professional actors and industry standard equipment. The programme included a two-day shoot, followed by two days of editing, culminating in a completed short film.
The films were premiered at a professional showcase event held at Curzon cinemas, giving students the opportunity to see their work presented in a genuine industry setting.
Alongside the practical production work, Luce also attended a series of masterclasses with leading figures from the film and television industry, including Martin McDonagh and Lindsey Collins. The programme placed a strong emphasis on professional development, with workshops focused on career readiness, pitching, green light meetings, and marketing presentations delivered to industry panels.
Students also visited Pinewood Studios, where they learned more about career pathways, further training, and internship opportunities within the film and media industries.
Reflecting on the impact of the experience, Luce added: “This experience has really shaped and defined my future in film. It’s given me the confidence and knowledge to pursue it further. Just as importantly, it introduced me to a crew of enthusiastic and dedicated filmmaking friends, who I connected with closely and will be working with again on future projects beyond NFTS.”
Rebecca Moon, Collyer’s Head of Media BTEC said: “Collyer’s Media department is incredibly proud of Luce’s achievement. This success highlights both the talent and ambition of its students, and the value of industry focused opportunities that connect young creatives to the professional world of film and television.”
