A record 15 Collyer’s rugby players have been called up to play for Sussex Under 18s. The students will play for Sussex throughout May, in fixtures against Hampshire, Kent and Surrey.

The students selected from the women’s team are Freya Bell, Abbie Corrall, Evie Guy, Alina Hillicks; Macy Lawes, Kacey Matthews, Georgia Pearce and Amber Wheat. From the men’s side, Matt Bates, Ellis Beynon, Harvey Brock, Bryan Karimanzira, Jake Lovett, Eoin O’Donoghue, and Aidan Sharp were called up.

Head of Sports Academy, John Burroughs, said: “Collyer’s sport are incredibly proud to have secured a record county call-up this year. It is a fantastic achievement and a huge boost for Collyer’s sport academies in general. I know the students are looking forward to tackling the challenges of county competition!”

Deputy Principal Steve Martell said: “This is the beginning of another golden generation, so huge congratulations to these record breakers! We are incredibly proud of our rugby academy and these superb athletes deserve county honours. The players and the coaching group are an absolute credit to Collyer’s.”

The Collyer’s Sport Academy comprises basketball, football, hockey, netball and rugby. Andrea John, Vice Principal (Pastoral) added: “We are now attracting students from across the south east and internationally to join our Sports Academy. It is going from strength and strength!”
